I’m a Geocaching Knitter

Posted by Betani  Published in Beyond the hobby
I may not have many finds under my belt just yet, but I believe I can safely call myself a Geocacher. Geocaching is basically a huge treasure hunting game. A GPS is usually used, but it isn't always necessary. All caches have a log book that you sign, showing that you found it, and many have a small store of trinkets to trade. You put in a small trinket, and you can take a trinket out for yourself. Sometimes, you even find a Travel Bug, which is a little toy or other small item bearing a dog tag with a unique number on it. These little hitchhikers are meant to be taken from cache to cache, traveling as far as possible. Sometimes, they even have missions. Perhaps to visit all 50 states, or even to go to other countries. I've got a set of dog tags at the ready, but I'm stuck for an idea for what to make for a Travel Bug. Here's where I solicit your help. ;) It needs to be small enough to fit in most small caches, so probably around 3 or 4 inches big. It needs to be durable. It's going to pass through many hands, and could get battered around in the process. It needs to be weatherproof. This is probably the most important. Even though it will be inside cache containers, accidents happen, and it will definately be exposed to the elements. Can you give me any suggestions on what materials to use, and what type of item to make? Post your ideas in the comments. I'd love to hear what you think!
